Lovelab Berlin presents Tim Ra’s “AI Experiment”

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the opening of Lovelab Berlin and the vernissage of Tim Ra’s “AI Experiment” on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 12 to 20h at Griebenowstraße 23, 10435 Berlin.

Lovelab is a new lab for AI art, a space for exchange, exhibitions, collaboration, workshops and experimentation, hosted by Gregor Marvel’s legendary Friendly Society. In next twelve months, Lovelab will present key positions of the new global art movement, starting with a curated selection Tim Ra’s work, that Mark Batson, the Grammy winning producer of Beyoncé, 50cent, Alicia Keys and JayZ, describes as “stellar”, “truly turning the new technology into spectacular art!”.

Over the past 365 days, Ra has embarked on a fantastical journey inside artificial intelligence to explore the aesthetic, cultural and social fabric of AI art, reaching millions on social media with messages both challenging and empowering. Through his experiments with AI systems such as Dall-E, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Runway, and ChatGPT, Ra reflects on a technological revolution that is currently radically transforming all areas of human productivity. The exhibition offers a critical look at the limitations, risks and possibilities of these new tools.

The resulting works will be on display as large-scale prints, projections, and installations. Each work tells a story and is simultaneously part of a social sculpture that escapes complete control and authorship – and is documented in the exhibition. Together, this reads like a preview of the future of art and creativity.

Gregor Marvel’s Friendly Society in Berlin-Mitte opens its doors on September 23, 2023 for a year-long collaboration with Lovelab Berlin and Tim Ra’s AI Experiment.

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Tim Ra has been working at the intersection of music, art, and technology for the past 25 years. With a body of work that includes club, pop, and hip-hop releases, book publications with Max Dax as well as contemporary visual and video art, he now reveals himself as a traveller in the world of AI.
