Lovelab Dreamspace WHERE DREAMS TAKE FORM

Tim Ra

Tim Ra

Born in Michigan and raised in Berlin, mixes Tim Ra for over thirty years as a journalist and artist in the Berlin cultural scene. He works with the media of image, film, and sound. His works explore the Dreamspace – that dimension of human experience in which consciousness loses its fixed boundaries: in dreams, in psychedelic rituals, in meditation, and in the artistic process.

The core of his artistic work consists of visual worlds in which mythological motifs, political present, and future visions are interwoven. In addition, Ra develops musical works ranging from jazz to hip-hop to contemporary electronic music. His releases – often accompanied by music videos, most recently nominated multiple times internationally for festivals – are presented as immersive audio-visual experiences in the Lovelab Dreamspace.

As a writer and journalist, he wrote under the name Robert Defcon among other things for Spex and Electronic Beats about culture, technology, and contemporary artistic production. As co-author, he wrote, together with Max Dax, the definitive biography of Einstürzenden Neubauten and published numerous oral histories.

In recent years, his research and public work have focused on Artificial Intelligence in art and its aesthetic, philosophical, and ethical implications.

As the founder and curator of the Lovelab Dreamspace, Tim Ra combines artistic and journalistic production with curatorial design in a salon format—in the laboratory where dreams are born.
