With \u00bbKillers of C\u00e1diz,\u00ab Tim Ra delves deep into the twilight of noir, inspired by the Afro-American and European jazz modernism of the late 1950s. Expansive orchestral textures cast shadows over Iberian harmonies, melodies appear and disappear, while a searching, insistent trumpet leads through the scenes as a fragile narrative voice.<\/p>\n\n

The music tells of a world that shines outward, while beneath it an abyss yawns. Illusion and hubris reign and resist everything that is grounded and substantial. Yet ultimately, funky grooves penetrate the darkness, pulsate through the body, anchor the abyss, and set it in motion.<\/p>\n\n

Killers of C\u00e1diz is a tribute to the tradition of noir jazz, a tradition that embraced ambiguity, unease, darkness, and immense musical freedom, while at the same time opening a window onto a broken, late capitalist present where old certain.<\/p>\n\n
